The Sonar Kollektiv Orchester was founded in 2007 as a highlight to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Jazzanova’s Sonar Kollektiv label. SKO is an all star band, the personnel consisting of recording artists and performing musicians connected to the label. 3 vocals including Clara Hill, Esther Cowens and Wilson Michaels, 4 strings, 3 horns and a full rhythm section! The orchestra, all of them highly skilled musicians of classical or jazz education, is conducted by prolific artist Volker Meitz who has already worked with Dephazz, Wir sind Helden and Rosenstolz amongst many others. The orchestra’s multifaceted repertoire is a cross selection of tunes from the Sonar Kollektiv label back catalogue, the original styles of which cover a wide range from Deep House and Broken Beats to Reggae and experimental Hip Hop. The new arrangements for the 15 piece ensemble put the tunes into an orchestral context and provide a brand new listening experience! Their studio recording, Guaranteed Niceness, was released in 2008.
