FETSUM (BAND)
There‘s rarely music coming out so intimate and life-affirming at the same time. Fetsum calls upon a whole host of influences from soul to reggae to the Mande music of Mali, from folk to rock to hip hop, and far beyond.
Remarkable as it may seem, he succeeded in boiling down his unique experiences to elements that offer hope, joy and comfort. Over the last five years Fetsum played more than 160 live performances across Europe and the USA. He shared stages with acts like Estelle, K‘NAAN, Peter Fox, Soehne Mannheims, Cassandra Steen, Max Herre and Patrice.
He performed live at the SXSW Festival, BBC World News, ZDF Morgenmagazin and recently wrote a stunning song for Opel’s new image campaign “Umparken im Kopf”.
In 2016, Fetsum launched a major fundraising concert at Berlin’s Waldbühne, a music festival for children who are war refugees. 20,000 spectators came to hear bands and musicians such as Seeed, Beatsteaks, Aloe Blacc, Max Herre, Joy Denalane, Cro und Clueso, Megaloh, Afrob, Samy Deluxe, Namika and Motrip. The concert lasted six hours, arms raised in the sunny evening skies. Fetsum himself rounded up the musicians and co-organised this concert under the name “Peace x Peace” supported by UNICEF. It promoted life- and soul-saving projects for children in Syria, South Sudan, Ukraine and Iraq with the proceeds.
