Since their formation in 1999 the Berlin-based band Micatone became a blueprint for the nujazz genre linking club sounds like drum & bass, house and trip hop, with folk and jazz.
After three successful electronic albums recorded and released as part of Jazzanova’s label Sonar Kollektiv, Micatone explore a more back-to-the-roots way of making music. Jazz singer Lisa Bassenge and her band members have all been long-time friends and their love for live touring have bonded them even stronger. Their fourth album "Wish I Was Here" is the pure essence of their musical evolution replacing computers and beatmaking machines by recording the whole album entirely live.
Their sound is deep and mature integrating elements of soul, surf, beat and blues. The recording sessions took place in the studio of their long-time friend and audio engineer Tobias Seitz, situated in the new bohemian area of Berlin – Neukölln. As traditionally they also invited artists to perform on the new album perfectly matching its spirit and sound. So it came to an inspiring cooperation with Stuart A. Staples, lead singer of the Tindersticks and Earl Harvin, live drummer of the French band Air as well as multi-instrumentalist and Calexico trumpet player Martin Wenk.
